The UFC’s long-time light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson finished the Brazilian Glover Texeira today with a brutal triple uppercut combo.
UFC Stockholm can be considered a success in every sense of the word. The fights were entertaining and the card played host to several brutal knockout wins. Swedish MMA got its showcase and for the most part, the home fighters left the octagon having done their country proud but the card’s main event winner was perhaps the one who looked the most impressive of all.
Alexander Gustafsson put a clinic on the veteran Glover Teixeira and in the absence of Jon Jones (for now) established himself as the 205lb division’s top contender.
Only ten fights in UFC history have been finished in the fifth round but on Sunday night Alex ‘the Mauler’ joined that exclusive list when he nearly decapitated his opponent with just 1:09 left on the clock.
For Gustafsson it was perhaps the most impressive win of his career to date and one that will do wonders in helping him rediscover the momentum that had many pegging him as a future champion just a few years ago.
Glover Teixeira’s chin was near-indestructible at times on Sunday evening but sure enough, he could only take so much damage. The scary thing, however, is that it only took Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson one to get the job done back at UFC 202.
To top it all off, Gustafsson proposed to his girlfriend in the octagon after the bout and you can also check out the touching moment below;
