On a day where our focus has been set on a rather ugly scene, it’s important to remember that an entire fight-card took place, one that saw Derrick Lewis record the biggest win of his career to date.
‘The Black Beast’ was well and truly done for as the final thirty-seconds of his main-card showdown with Alexander Volkov came and passed.
Volkov’s reach and management of distance saw Lewis’ ability to close the distance hindered often and several of the Russian’s teep kicks managed to hurt the brawler badly, forcing him to shell up as the former Bellator veteran unloaded with strikes.
Since defeating both Stefan Struve and the former champion Fabricio Werdum in his last two fights, it really did look as though ‘Drago’ was set to be the next big thing in the UFC’s heavyweight division – and he could still be – but with less than twenty seconds on the clock, Derrick Lewis summoned up a miracle.
DERRICK LEWIS IS BACK!! 😱
The Black Beast KO's Volkov just seconds before the fight ends! What a comeback! What a fight!

And, of course, his post-fight interview was an instant classic.
