The UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has become the latest fighter to challenge the boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather following word that he has supposedly shown an interest in competing under the UFC banner.
If this turns out to be anything more than the ‘nothing-story of 2017’ then this writer will eat his hat.
Floyd Mayweather recently made it clear that ‘if he wanted to’ he could make a billion dollars fighting in the UFC and though his comment was meant to be a bit more tongue-in-cheek than anything else, the MMA world collectively lost their minds and even the fighters began to speak up – in the hopes of getting themselves a chance at a major, major payday.
Of course, it turned out that Floyd wasn’t too serious but even then, UFC president Dana White confirmed that he had been in talks with the boxer over getting something done. It was a strange development but still, a lot of people struggled to take it too seriously.
Now, the consensus pound-for-pound greatest fighter on the planet, Demetrious Johnson – speaking to TMZ Sports – has issued a bizarre callout of Mayweather, telling him he would promise not to grapple – something that he believes would in no way hold him back from winning.
He then went on to explain exactly how such a matchup would play out and understandably, he’s pretty confident.
