Dana White used his platform at the UFC 223 post-fight press conference to return fire at SHOWTIME’s Stephen Espinoza following remarks he made about the UFC this week.
Yesterday, we brought you the news that SHOWTIME’s executive vice-president Stephen Espinoza had made a rather public dig at the UFC via his official Twitter following their booking of Al Iaquinta for a lightweight title clash. The issues surrounding Al’s weigh-in and the 0.2lbs he came in over-weight had many questioning exactly how the fight between him and Khabib Nurmagomedov that would eventually headline the card was made.
It was a confusing situation, no doubt, but Espinoza used the opportunity to take a shot at the promotion’s integrity.
And they claim boxing is lawless.
Never heard a boxing match declared a title fight for both fighters even though one fighter failed to make weight.
Congrats, UFC. You've far outdone boxing in terms of shadiness. But why bother adhering to rules when you don't feel like it? https://t.co/w5JeUoDNKI

I have no issue with the fighters. None at all.
My issue is with the organization declaring that almost is good enough on a weigh-in.
Hand grenades, horseshoes and UFC title fights…when almost is good enough. https://t.co/4C3mxlGU5l

Espinoza’s history with the UFC peaked with his involvement on the Mayweather/McGregor world tour last year and after garnering himself something of a bad reputation in MMA circles due to his run-in with the sport’s biggest star Conor McGregor, he has found himself well and truly in the bad-books of a lot of those invested.
Dana White spoke briefly about the SHOWTIME VP’s dig last night and was particularly brutal in his response.
