Curtis Blaydes handed the legendary Alistair Overeem another vicious knockout loss at UFC 225 last night, establishing himself as a new contender at 265lbs.
It’s not nice to watch a veteran fighter with a clearly-deteriorated chin absorb hard shots late into their career but once again, on the biggest stage possible, Alistair Overeem succumbed to another vicious KO defeat in the heavyweight division.
First, it was Francis Ngannou’s uppercut from hell that nearly took the Dutchman off of his feet and now, with another prospect, Curtis Blaydes, he was annihilated by some brutal ground-and-pound elbows.
Elbows are bad enough in any position/weight-class but grounded elbows from one of the biggest heavyweights out there is just too much to absorb. It was the third round and the ref, rightly so, called a halt just in time.
Many have been wondering whether this will be the end of the road for the Reem and to be honest, it looks like he needs to have a long hard think about his future after this latest setback.
