Conor McGregor’s signature left-hand shot has been broken down in a fantastic new video compiling some of the greatest examples of the ‘touch of death’ in the world of mixed martial arts.
Conor McGregor’s infamous left-hand may well be the most well-known weapon in MMA today. Over the past four years now, all but two of his opponents inside the octagon have been eliminated by what Firas Zahabi aptly named the ‘touch of death’ and with the continuation of McGregor’s meteoric rise in recent times, his power-shot’s reputation has only grown in its infamy.
At UFC 205, McGregor used his power to stifle the veteran former-champ Eddie Alvarez virtually every time he moved forward and though the manner in which he took out the Underground King was shocking to most, the confidence that Conor has displayed in his power and accuracy over the years has allowed him to intimidate his opponents, using the threat of his near-perfect straight-left as a tool in unravelling his foe.
Through both his wins over the aforementioned Alvarez, as well as his UFC 194 destruction of José Aldo, Conor has managed to elevate his own ‘touch of death’ to the level of a Rousey armbar, a Liddell left-hook or a Cro Cop kick in terms of both its fame within the MMA community as well as its undeniable worth inside the octagon.
The YouTuber MindSmash, in the latest of his always-brilliant videos, broke down five of the most devastating examples of the touch of death in MMA history but his analysis of McGregor, in particular, is truly fascinating, to say the least.
