The former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen made it clear that he was not happy with commentator Joe Rogan following last weekend’s UFC 225.
UFC colour-commentator Joe Rogan seems to be among the best-liked figures in the sport of MMA so when loud-mouthed welterweight contender Colby Covington chose to publicly voice his anger with him, many felt that it was a strange decision.
Fighters don’t really make moves against Rogan. Sure, he is the host of one of the world’s most popular podcasts The Joe Rogan Experience, but even as a massively influential figure, he distances himself from disputes with any of the athletes whose fights he calls.
Of course, Covington patched things up with him on the spot following his UFC 225 victory over Rafael dos Anjos but now, another prominent figure has taken issue with Rogan’s approach, the former middleweight and light-heavyweight title challenger, Chael Sonnen.
Rogan’s commentary of fights and his allusion to the fact that Colby’s role as a ‘heel’ is a gimmick seemed to rub Sonnen up the wrong way. He argues that the whole appeal of the newly-crowned interim-welterweight champ is his outrageousness and that his marketability will only be hurt by pulling back the curtain on that.
