The ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor was notorious far before his days as an A-list star within the UFC, something that is evidenced by some of his most memorable moments from back in Cage Warriors.
He may seem like an unavoidable fixture right now, but there was, of course, a time when the UFC’s lightweight champion Conor McGregor was a small-time fighter, battling away on the European circuit without much idea about how exactly his future would unfold.
Cage Warriors were the promotion where McGregor honed his craft for the big-time and though his run under their banner isn’t perhaps as widely acknowledged as his current streak in the UFC, his time spent there showcased a man with all of the electric energy, confidence and undeniable talent necessary to compete at the highest level.
The official Twitter page for Cage Warriors showcased some of the future world champion’s finest moments in a recent tweet and with knockouts, trash-talking and some admittedly brutal elbows to be found within. It’s a highlight reel that doesn’t get half as much credit as it deserves.
McGregor would go on to submit Dave Hill and knock out Ivan Buchinger to get his first taste of being a two-weight world champion and even early on, you can see that the seeds have been planted for greatness.
