Anthony Smith had to weather an early storm to get the job done against the former title-challenger Volkan Oezdemir at UFC Moncton last night.
‘Lionheart’ proved his toughness as he stood toe-to-toe with the dangerous ‘No Time’ and for the first round or two, it really did appear as though it would be Volkan’s night.
As things went on, though, Smith started to open up more – consistently tagging his opponent as the first signs of fatigue started to set in before shooting for a takedown that saw him eventually get the finish by way of rear-naked choke.
While it lasted, is an all-out war and both men were exhausted at the end.
Smith’s pace and pressure won it for him when all was said and done but even he needed to be carried by his teammates on the way towards his post-fight celebrations.

A huge win in the toughest test of Smith’s 205lb run to date. With three finishes in three fights this year, his inclusion in the division’s top-5 is a certainly and now, he could well be just one fight away from a shot at UFC gold.
