Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis pulled off one of the most ridiculous knockouts of the era on perhaps its most clinical striker, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.
For all the dynamism, creativity and sheer unpredictability this fight had on paper going in, I doubt anyone could have ever predicted a finish like this.
The superman punch, the Showtime punch, the Showtime superman hook, whatever completely bonkers title you want to give it. What we witnessed in the UFC Nashville headliner was something that will play on highlight reels for eternity.
Thompson was actually really starting to find his range and offset Pettis’ rhythm as the second-round went on, utilising every weapon in his arsenal of kicks to keep the Milwaukee-native off of him.
It was still competitive, though, until it wasn’t.
Pettis managed to rebound from being pressed up against the cage with a superman punch that clattered Thompson upon impact.
An early KO of the Year candidate if ever we saw one!
SUPERMAN PUNCH! 😳
One of the most spectacular KOs you will see 👊
