Valentina Shevchenko has released a statement following her razor-thin split decision loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 215 last weekend.
Decisions in combat sports can often be the source of heated debate amongst the fans. Of course, there have been several instances of blatant robbery on the part of the judges in MMA but it’s hard to understand exactly how people can get so angered by the decisions made in fights as close as last weekend’s UFC 215 headlining bout between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko.
The result has seemingly split people down the middle. Round-by-round, the edge was given to the champion Nunes but in truth, the fight was so tight throughout that a decision either way would have been justifiable. Fights that close are not as black-and-white as those who disagree with their outcomes deem them to be but today, Shevchenko followed up on her heated post-fight interview by doubling down on her belief that she should have been awarded the victory that night.
Her five-page statement, which can be read in full by following the arrows on the right side of the post, can be read in full below.

They say you need to beat the champion to become the champion and in fairness to Shevchenko, her volume on the night kept the Lioness’ power at bay but with rounds 1 and 5 clearly going to her opponent, it’s hard to deny that Nunes won one of the three middle rounds needed to give her the 48-47 victory that the judges gave her when all was said and done.
