With us now just hours out from UFC 226, the fighters involved in the main and co-main events squared off at last night’s pre-fight presser.
In the hours that led up to last night’s conference we, of course, lost out on the featherweight title matchup between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega in rather upsetting fashion. The Hawaiian champ had been displaying concussion-like symptoms over the course of fight-week and while he had been cleared to fight and intending on doing so, he eventually was pulled.
At this stage, it’s almost as if we have become numb to such last-minute switch-ups. Every time a blockbuster event rolls around these days, the fear is already there that we might lose out on a high-profile bout – whether that be through illness, injury, or a problem with weight-cutting.
Still, though, the show must go on and while the 145lb title tilt will be missed, the rest of the card is absolutely stellar.
Last night we were treated to a press-conference that included the main-event headliners Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier, as well as the newly-promoted duo that will fight in the co-main, Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis.
Watch their faceoffs – which happened just moments after 205lb champion DC took a tumble – below:
