The UFC have thrown an almighty curve ball at their fans with the news that Tony Ferguson will make his return to the octagon to face Donald Cerrone.
The UFC lightweight division has once again been set up to continue its incredible run of top-level fights of late – this time with an absolute barnburner in-the-making between two of the finest 155lb-rs on the planet.
ESPN reported first that the fight would be taking place on June 8 at UFC 238, a move that the UFC have made as a result of the somewhat lacking depth of the card at present.
If that was a move brought about by the dismal buy-rate turned in by UFC 236 will likely never be known but all in all, this is a fight that the fans are completely behind.
Ferguson has been cleared to fight, which is quite surprising given the well-publicised issues he was having in his personal life of late.
Still, though, if history is any indicator, Tony has proven himself to hold an absolutely bullet-proof mindset – the type of mindset needed to recover from a gruesome LCL injury in April of 2018 and return to the octagon six months later in October.
For Cerrone, his last fight was, of course, at last weekend’s UFC Ottawa but knowing the man, this quick turnaround is no surprise.
What a fight!
