UFC 229 has apparently been gifted with a pivotal lightweight clash between top contender Tony Ferguson and the former champion Anthony Pettis.
The event, which is scheduled to be headlined by the colossal showdown between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor, had been seen by some as a bit short on big-name talent.
After a pretty underwhelming year for the promotion as far as PPV numbers went, perhaps the UFC just weren’t willing to place all of their eggs into a basket that was already guaranteed to be a big success.
Talk of the heavyweight showdown between Derrick Lewis and Alexander Volkov as a co-main event didn’t exactly help as far as the casual fan’s interest in the night on whole was concerned.
Thankfully, it appears as though we’re going to get another main-card entry worthy of the show in question after Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis revealed via Twitter that he will be stepping up to face the streaking contender that is Tony Ferguson.

Pettis had been on something of a slide since losing his title to Rafael dos Anjos back in 2015 but in his last outing – he managed to turn the table on the rising talent that is Michael Chiesa, submitting him in the second-round of their UFC 226 matchup.
Tony Ferguson hasn’t been seen since his UFC 216 victory over Kevin Lee but even after the now-infamous events of UFC 223 and his scrapped bout with Khabib, he remains one of the division’s most popular fighters.
What a fight we have on our hands with this one!
