Team Mayweather have revealed that they will be in touch with UFC lightweight Nate Diaz shortly with an offer for him to walk Floyd Mayweather to the ring to face his own great rival Conor McGregor on August 26.
This whole Mayweather-McGregor saga is slowly but surely getting a clear ‘anything you can do, I can do better’ feel about it.
Earlier this week, Conor grabbed the headlines when he engaged in some rather direct jabbing at his opponent Mayweather, wearing a basketball jersey – namely a Warriors kit – with the number 23 on the back, a direct reference to their former point-guard C. J. Watson, who reportedly had relations with Mayweather’s now-ex-girlfriend Josie Harris, who is also the mother of his three kids.
Now, after Conor’s latest attack garnered him even more attention from the media, Team Mayweather have made their own retaliation it seems after Floyd’s close friend Jason Lee spoke to TMZ about the latest trick up the sleeve of the ‘Money Team’.
Believe it or not, they claim that an offer will be extended to Stockton’s own Nate Diaz to walk with Floyd to the ring, something that is clearly a massive dig at the man he submitted at last year’s UFC 196 in Conor himself.
Nate Diaz, of course, is Conor’s biggest rival by far in the sport of MMA. On two separate occasions they have fought in extremely tense affairs and now, with the standing at 1-1, many are speculating that McGregor’s final fight in the UFC will be the rubber match against the only man he has come up short against in recent times.
Diaz has made no comment on the subject through either his official Twitter or Instagram account but I think it’s fair to say that if he were to take Floyd up on this offer, it could well be a big step towards coaxing McGregor into taking him on in one final showdown.
