Sage Northcutt’s start to life in his new home at ONE Championship got off to a nightmare start as he suffered a first-round KO at the hands of Cosmo Alexandre.
When it was announced that Sage Northcutt would be leaving the UFC in favour of a move to blossoming Asian promotion ONE Championship, the general consensus was that the move was the right one.
Despite garnering quite a bit of attention during his time under the bright lights, the 23-year-old former karateka showed himself to be in need of some work in order to reach his clear potential.
An undeniably impressive athletic specimen who won 77 world championships in karate in his youth, Northcutt still does need to gain some experience and in many ways, was perhaps plucked from the regional circuit a bit too soon – joining the UFC at the age of 19 with a record of 5-0.
Now, at 11-2, he made his ONE Championship debut against veteran kickboxer Cosmo Alexandre at ONE Championship: Enter The Dragon.
And it did not take long for things to take a turn for the worst.
Catching him within the opening minute, Alexandre KO’d Northcutt stiff with the beautifully timed shot in the first exchange.
