Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza Posts Statement Following Hermansson Loss

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza’s middleweight title hopes suffered a major setback after he lost out to Swedish contender Jack Hermansson at UFC Fort Lauderdale last weekend.

It was a gamble that did not work for the Brazilian after he took a short-notice replacement in Hermansson following Yoel Romero’s withdrawal from the bout.

In the lead-up to the fight, Jacare made it clear that the UFC had – in his view – pressured him into the taking the fight while dangling the possibility of a shot at the 185lb belt at him to sweeten the deal.

Jack Hermansson, by all accounts, was heavily underrated by the vast majority of those who made their predictions ahead of the fight and Souza was understandably seen as a step too far for the streaking contender.

When the fight actually got going, Hermansson flipped the script completely by employing a grappling-heavy strategy against the BJJ wizard, taking him down on several occasions and even catching him in a guillotine in the opening round.

Winning the fight outright on the scorecards, ‘The Joker’ has well and truly established himself in the divisional top-5 while Jacare has been left in something of an awkward position after this unfortunate risk to his title ambitions.

Taking to his official Instagram page, the 39-year-old reassured his fans that he is not yet finished in the sport following this setback.

“I’d like to thank everybody for their support! My opponent had a good strategy and won. Right after the fight I was very upset and disappointed
but now, God has been comforting my heart and even though I didn’t win, I don’t feel sad anymore.

“I glorify the Lord for this. I want to thank everyone who believe in my work and support me! I’m taking some time to rest with my family and I will be back soon!”

??Gostaria de agradecer o apoio de todos . Meu adversário teve uma boa estratégia e me venceu . ?? I’d like to thank everybody for their support! My opponent had a good strategy and won.
