Rockhold: “Jon Jones Does Not Want Daniel Cormier At Heavyweight”

The former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has claimed that Jon Jones wants no part of his teammate Daniel Cormier at heavyweight.

Cormier certainly hasn’t had too much in the way of problems since jumping back up to the division he went 13-0 in at the start of his career.

It seems as though a third and potentially final showdown between DC and Jon Jones is inevitable given the fact that the newly-recrowned champ has always been linked to a step up in weight but according to Cormier’s long-time AKA teammate Luke Rockhold, Jon doesn’t want any part of his great rival right now.

Speaking on a recent edition of The MMA Hour with Luke Thomas, Rockhold made it clear that his teammate is a completely different fighter at his more natural home in the heavyweight division.

“Jones doesn’t want that fight. Jones does not want a fight with DC at heavyweight. He doesn’t want to give him any advantages. He’s obviously taken what he can to build his confidence to fight him at light heavyweight.

“So, we all know he’s tested dirty twice in a row now. Three times? I don’t know what it is but… Picograms, whatever the hell they are.

“He’s obviously compensating to build himself up. DC at heavyweight is a much more dangerous fighter. He’s looser, he’s movin’ people, I’ve seen him in the gym.” (via BJPenn)

Funnily enough, Rockhold himself caught a few headlines last week after calling out ‘Bones’ ahead of his imminent move to the light-heavyweight.

Jones seems to be set on a collision course with the in-form contender Anthony Smith – with the fight reportedly close to being confirmed for March’s UFC 235, a card that is shaping up to be something incredible.
