Robert Whittaker has called on the UFC to book his middleweight title unification showdown with Israel Adesanya as a co-main event to Khabib’s return.
Earlier today we brought you some clues that would indicate that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is preparing to headline a showdown in Abu Dhabi in September.
It would make sense, given the extremely high level of popularity and pull Khabib has been able to muster on that side of the world – as evidenced by his recent world tour and the response he received.
However, middleweight champion Robert Whittaker seems to have his eyes on drawing the return of Khabib and his showdown with interim-lightweight champ Dustin Poirier to Australia as the headliner to a show featuring his own title unification matchup with Israel Adesanya.
Taking to his official Instagram, Whittaker called on Dana White and the UFC to combine the two UFC 236 interim-title winners’ next fight in an Australian stadium.
It seems unlikely given the fact that Nurmagomedov is so well-suited to a matchup in U.A.E but even still, there’s no doubt that both the middleweight and lightweight champions are on course for an absolutely huge 2019.
