One of 2017’s most electric matchups is reportedly set for a second fight, this time to take place at UFC 227 in Los Angeles on August 4.
It can often be hard for a fight to live up to the sometimes gargantuan expectations that can stem from a massive rivalry in its buildup. However, with the likes of Anderson Silva/Chael Sonnen, Jon Jones/Daniel Cormier and Conor McGregor/Nate Diaz, we’ve found fighters who just clash on a personal level and the resulting bout channels all of that electricity immensely.
After UFC 217 last November, I think it’s safe to say that we can add Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw to that list.
Their two-round war was one of the best fights of the year and though it was Dillashaw who came out on top on the night, Cody had more than a few moments that suggested that he could get the job done in a rematch.
And according to ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, we may well see that matchup become a reality sooner than we think.
Dillashaw, as a two-time UFC champ, was heavily linked to a super-fight with the dominant flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson this summer but with this revelation it now looks as though he will defend his newly-won belt in his next outing.
Bantamweight has slowly become one of the UFC’s most stacked divisions but with this booking now potentially set in stone, we might have to wait just a bit longer until we see another top-contender emerge at 135lbs.
