The newly-crowned women’s strawweight champion is reportedly being looked at for a co-main event slot at UFC 223 which is scheduled to take place in Brooklyn, New York on April 7.
UFC 217 was a night that will live long in the memory of fight-fans for a myriad of reasons and while the successful return of Georges St-Pierre and TJ Dillashaw’s stunning knockout of Cody Garbrandt were amazing in their own right, for many, the upset victory that saw Rose Namajunas dethrone the dominant Joanna Jedrzejczyk was just something else entirely.
Namajunas, though certainly diverse on the feet, is primarily known for her slick submission work and coming up against Joanna she was said to be at a massive disadvantage, at least on paper.
The champ had been on an absolute tear in recent years, using her devastatingly potent muay-thai to earn wins over the likes of Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Jessica Andrade, and Claudia Gadelha. She had slowly been carving out a real air of invincibility for herself and with the relatively green Namajunas in front of her, she was expected to put on a striking clinic for those in attendance at Madison Square Garden.
Of course, things did not turn out as many would have expected and Namajunas managed to land several hard shots on the champ, knocking her down twice before finishing her with a barrage of hits on the canvas.
Now, with the belt firmly in her possession, it has come to light that the UFC are looking at a second title fight for their next stop in New York City, UFC 223, after it emerged that Tony Ferguson will more than likely face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov in the show’s main-event and the source ‘TalkMMA’ has claimed that a rematch between the former champ Jedrzejczyk and Namajunas is being looked at.
New report coming shortly to @MMAFighting re: Ferguson – Khabib in Brooklyn, plus another potential title fight for that card (which was first reported by @talkmma). It’s good news but one key detail is still unclear at this time.

UFC 223 is set to take place in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 7, and with potentially two huge fights already in discussion, it could well be one of the more essential mixed martial arts events in the early half of 2018.
