Anthony Pettis Calls Out Stephen Thompson For 170lb Showdown

The former UFC lightweight champion of the world has called for a welterweight showdown with the karate master Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.

Pettis may have fought as low as 145lb in the past but even still, this fight would be incredible.

Not seen since his instant classic showdown against Tony Ferguson at UFC 229, Pettis has seemingly managed to recapture some of the fire that saw him establish himself as one of the most dominant forces in MMA a few years back.

An incredibly dynamic striker who boasts perhaps the most varied selection of taekwondo kicks in the game, Pettis seemed to have hit his wall when the so-called ‘blueprint’ on shutting down his approach became clear.

Forced to restructure his style from the ground up after a string of defeats, Pettis appeared to be back to his best with a fantastic submission victory over Michael Chiesa at UFC 226 and while he lost out to the incredibly-talented Ferguson in October, the manner in which he fought and competed on the night saw him lose very little in the way of momentum.

Now, with no clear opponent in his sights, Pettis took to his official Instagram to call out to the two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, who has not fought since his razor-thin decision loss to Darren Till at UFC Liverpool.

Sometimes fights come along that you would never even have considered but make no mistake, Wonderboy vs. Pettis has all of the ingredients necessary to be a striking showcase for the ages.
