Pedro Carvalho managed to score an impressive submission victory over the veteran Sam Sicilia at Bellator 226 last night.
The SBG standout will advance to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Bellator featherweight grand-prix and as a result, will edge closer to the tournament’s $1 million overall prize.
Carvalho, who held both the Portuguese and Irish flags above his head upon earning this latest victory, came up against the gritty former UFC fighter Sam Sicilia in the opening bracket, a man who is also known for his electric and relentless fighting style.
After securing a second-round face-crank, Carvalho forced the tap – extending his current winning streak to six and his overall pro-record to 10-3.
In a tournament that contains several well-known fighters already established within the divisional title-picture, Carvalho will at least have the luxury of entering as a dark horse and who knows, by the time all is said and done we could well have another Irish-based star on our hands.
