Malignaggi Begins Teasing A Potential Bout With McGregor Down The Line

Paulie Malignaggi has started to hint at the possibility of a matchup between himself and the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor after all is said and done come August 26.

It’s hard to imagine that the gargantuan duo that is boxing’s Floyd Mayweather and MMA’s Conor McGregor would find themselves under threat from a third dance partner but truth be told, in the last week or so, we’ve been hearing just as much from another outspoken pugilist who happens to have strong ties to both men, someone who has somehow managed to wriggle his way into the limelight after what has been yet another memorable week in this ongoing saga.

Paulie Malignaggi is a retired former two-weight world champion boxer who was drafted in to help McGregor prepare for his showdown with Mayweather after he made some rather pointed remarks about the Irishman’s chances a few months prior.

‘Help him prepare’ doesn’t actually sum up exactly what Paulie’s purpose in camp was, to be honest. Instead, McGregor saw bringing him in as an opportunity to both prove himself and also to shut his American adversary’s mouth in the process.

Of course, tension formed between the two, and Malignaggi – feeling he had been disrespected by Conor’s social media posts that depicted him in a less-than-desirable light – released the following statement, outlining exactly how he felt about how his turbulent time with Team McGregor turned out.

Now, a few days out from that revelation, word has come out of the McGregor camp that offers a different view but regardless of what you think yourself, all this has done is add to the spectacle that we are now just fifteen days away from seeing in action.

Malignaggi, in a Twitter session with some fans, now seemed a bit warmer to the idea of facing Conor McGregor in a boxing match down the line – even if he himself is still in retirement – and though he was initially hesitant to say it outright, he did begin to hint at the notion that he would be interested in such a contest if an opportunity presented itself.

Again, it’s nothing concrete but considering how opposed to the idea he was even a few days ago, do not be surprised if this has all been a play on his part to bring his name into a potential fight discussion down the line.
