The odds for this weekend’s lightweight title clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway have been released and they’re very much in favour of the Russian.
An unbeaten record is not something that is easily held in the sport of mixed martial arts. Sure, you have contenders who rise through the ranks without a blemish on their resumé with such a wide and varied selection of ways that you can lose, it’s damn near impossible to make your ascent without encountering at least one instance of adversity.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has managed to establish himself as a class above all other unbeaten talents.
When your one moment of supposed trouble in the last few years is repeatedly pointed to as proof that you are, in fact, human, you know you’ve set yourself a standard that is on another level.
At UFC 205, when Khabib was clipped by his opponent Michael Johnson early, the manner in which he rebounded was not only a testament to his elite-level skillset, but also to his grit and determination.
With the featherweight champion of the world Max Holloway now in front of him, the odds have been released for UFC 223’s main-event and unsurprisingly, the underdog is the man who will give up size, experience at 155lbs and a full training camp to his foe.
MMA Oddsbreaker currently has Holloway as the +365 underdog with Nurmagomedov coming in as a -505 favourite. Simply put, a successful hundred euro bet on the Hawaiian would pay back four hundred and sixty-five euros while the same stake on Khabib would net you just one hundred and nineteen euros and eighty cents.
Many have already commended Max for taking the fight but against a grappler of Khabib’s strength and size, a win for him would perhaps be one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport.
