Nick Diaz, the legendary former Strikeforce welterweight champion, is reportedly set to make his long-awaited return to the octagon in March.
And it has been a long time coming.
Not seen since his unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva, Nick has been lingering in a state of semi-retirement for quite some time now – content to rest on his laurels and enjoy the fame he has earned after a hard road through the fight-game.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN – who spoke to UFC president Dana White – reported first that Diaz’s contract is close to being finalised.
Breaking: The UFC is close to finalizing Nick Diaz's return to the Octagon, per Dana White. The fight is Jorge Masvidal at UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas. Diaz's first appearance in more than four years. Story coming soon to @ESPN.

With Jorge Masvidal set to share the octagon with him for what we can only assume will be a three-round 170lb clash, fans will no doubt be delighted to see one of the most exciting fighters in the history of the sport return to action.
By the time UFC 235 comes around, it will have been over four years since we’ve seen the elder Diaz in action and in a recent interview, again with Okamoto, his opponent Masvidal expressed his excitement for a showdown with one of the game’s most aggressive fighters.

It’s also worth noting that UFC 235 in March is the date expected to host the retirement of UFC dual-weight world champion Daniel Cormier – although who knows how that will turn out once Jon Jones makes his own return to contention.
