Max Holloway Issues Statement Following First Loss Since 2013

The UFC featherweight champion of the world has issued a statement following his UFC 236 loss to the newly-crowned interim-lightweight champ, Dustin Poirier.

Max Holloway left UFC 236 with his head held high, make no mistake.

It’s not exactly a stretch to say that the featherweight champion did himself justice but from the get-go, it became pretty apparent that Dustin Poirier had both the gameplan and the physical advantages necessary to beat him down convincingly.

Poirier well and truly stepped up to the plate in a fight that stood as the biggest of his career with a sense of urgency that was evident from the first bell.

And Holloway really did test him. After encountering some early adversity in the form of a thoroughly dominant opening round from The Diamond, Max’s volume and cardio began to shine through but in the end, it wasn’t enough to win it on the night.

Looking at both guys in the post-fight, it was pretty clear who the winner was, as Holloway left the arena that night with a mask of blood on his face.

Taking to his official Instagram page, Blessed congratulated Poirier on what was a hard-fought victory.
