The former light-heavyweight champion of the world, Lyoto Machida, has signed a deal with Bellator MMA after his existing deal with the UFC ran out.
Just a few weeks after he recorded the win that may well bag him Knockout of the Year honours, Lyoto Machida has now signed with Bellator MMA.

Riding a two-fight win streak that most recently saw him front kick Vitor Belfort into oblivion, this revelation has come as a pretty massive surprise to most. Lyoto’s peak years are certainly behind him but with his latest win, he proved that he is more than capable of at least engaging in and winning fun fights.
Still, this has to be seen as a solid pickup for the Scott Coker-run promotion. Middleweight is among their most stacked divisions and while it is unclear whether Lyoto will fight there or back up at 205lbs, either way – many interesting matchups await him.
His timing and accuracy will likely never leave him so with an eye on his eventual retirement, perhaps this was the move that made sense for ‘The Dragon’ from a financial perspective.
