Leah McCourt Steamrolls Kerry Hughes To First-Round Submission

Leah McCourt was as dominant as advertised as she absolutely ran through her Bellator Dublin opponent Kerry Hughes on her way to a first-round stoppage.

McCourt had the opportunity to show all of her skills as she dealt with the threat presented by the Essex-native Hughes on the Bellator 227 main-card.

Opening up the fight with some heavy exchanges on the feet, Leah eventually found her way to the clinch where her abilities as a judo black-belt took over, allowing her to take her opponent to the ground with relative ease.

From there, it was a clinic from the Belfast featherweight as she sliced through her adversary’s defenses before locking up the rear-naked choke to get the stoppage.

With that victory, McCourt moves to 3-1 as a professional on the back of two consecutive first-round finishes as a Bellator athlete.

Seen as a budding star within the European scene, Leah will no doubt have her work cut out to establish herself within the Bellator 145lb ranks but with this hugely impressive victory in her back-pocket, the future is no doubt bright for this SBG standout.

Taking to the mic directly after the fight, she called for a spot on November’s return to London – a bout that would stand as her third of the current calendar year.
