Khabib Nurmagomedov and Nate Diaz had to be separated by security following a rather heated moment they shared whilst in attendance at UFC 239.
It’s hard to know what exactly was said to cause tempers to flare, but given the pair’s history – which extends all the way back to 2015, you can imagine that the tension between these two was palpable as soon as they came within a short distance of each other.
Many people might believe that these two are connected only by their common rivalry with the former lightweight champion Conor McGregor, but back in 2015, when both hadn’t crossed paths with the Irishman yet, they were involved in a heated clash at a WSOF event they were attending in support of their teammates.
In the time since, Diaz has repeatedly claimed that he ‘slapped’ Nurmagomedov and his team and knowing his fondness for reminding his rivals of his conquests, one would have to assume that the skirmish was brought up by him at some point.
Nate, at one point, was walking past the champion before turning around and walking towards Khabib and his team – causing security to intervene and prevent anything serious happening.

Speaking about the incident in his post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White had the following to say:
“They got into a fight, Khabib and Diaz. Talking sh*t to each other back-and-forth and everybody broke it up.
“We moved Diaz and then he left after the Melendez fight.
“It was verbal [and not physical]. Everybody got it before it became anything more than verbal.”
