The team of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov have explained why 30-0 is the perfect record for their fighter to take into his inevitable retirement.
Of course, given the championship belt around his waist and the sheer calibre of the sharks that are circling, for Khabib to reach such a milestone would be incredibly impressive.
Beating Dustin Poirier in such dominant fashion in the UFC 242 main-event was enough to truly make people start to make an argument for him as the world’s #1 pound-for-pound fighter.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani went one step further, describing Nurmagomedov as ‘unequivocally the most dominant fighter the sport has ever seen’, declaring him a cut above of each of the other who ply their trade at 155lbs right now.
His father, Abdulmanap, spoke to the media in the wake of one of his son’s most impressive victories yet and doubled down on the fact that only two fights lie ahead of The Eagle.
“For Khabib, 30-0 is enough.
“Regarding his last fight, then of course, we would like his final title defence to be in Moscow.”
Right now, it’s pretty clear that the world of MMA is ready to see a matchup between Khabib and Tony Ferguson booked for a fifth time but in recent days, the Dagestani’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz told TMZ that El Cucuy may well be brushed aside if the opportunity to face the legendary Georges St-Pierre becomes available.
“Nobody really cares about what Tony says. Nobody gives a s**t really. As far as I know, GSP is next. That is what I want.
“Tony doesn’t get what he wants. We get what Khabib wants, and if Khabib calls me and says he wants Georges St-Pierre, Georges St-Pierre will be next.”
