Kevin Lee Has Missed Weight, Interim Title Challenge In Jeopardy

Leonardo Santos and Kevin Lee in their lightweight fight during UFC 194 on December 12, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kevin Lee’s interim title challenge is in jeopardy as he came in one pound over the limit at Friday’s weigh-in.

It seems like a bad case of deja vu, but now, just like before at UFC 209, weight-cutting issues have played a part in another Tony Ferguson interim title fight.

Kevin Lee left it until the very last minute allowed to make his way to the scales at today’s UFC 216 weigh-ins but came in at 156lbs, one pound over the championship limit of 155lbs.

The question now is whether he can make the weight in the next hour that the doctors have afforded him.

If not, one would assume that his chance to win the belt will be taken away, similar to what happened when Anthony Pettis came in heavy against the current featherweight champ Max Holloway last year.

Time will tell how this story progresses but you’d have to imagine that this latest drama is playing on the mind of his opponent, Tony Ferguson.
