Kevin Lee spoke during a recent interview with Submission Radio about his hopes to secure a showdown with Ben Askren in the future.
Lee’s start to life in the welterweight division didn’t exactly get off the smoothest of starts as he found himself on the losing side upon facing Rafael dos Anjos in his debut.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Submission Radio, Lee doubled down on his intention to stay at 170lbs with a shot at the famed wrestler Ben Askren – a man who fell out of the title-picture to a certain extent after a rough five-second defeat at the hands of Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239.
Citing a past sparring session they had shared a few years ago, The Motown Phenom explained how one-dimensional he sees Askren as being and how a showdown between them both would be an ideal matchup right now.
“Ben is probably the easiest out of anybody. He’s just too hittable and too one-dimensional.
“He had that little back and forth with me at the press conference talking about he took me down when I was 19 years old as if that meant something to anybody.
“He didn’t talk about the right hand I kept hitting him with right before that but that’s water under the bridge.”
As we all know, the UFC have always maintained a preference for matching up fighters who are both coming off of losses and knowing both of these guys’ penchant for being vocal, one would have to imagine that it would certainly be a fight worth making if the pieces fall into place correctly.
