Junior dos Santos has issued a statement via his social media channels following his first-round TKO defeat to Francis Ngannou at UFC Minneapolis.
And it was a quick and ruthless way for The Predator to cap off the night and make his status as the divisional top contender crystal-clear.
Dos Santos was the betting underdog in the eyes of the bookies as soon as the bout was announced and while he had a decent moment or two early on, the reasons for that being the case became clear very quickly.
Ngannou’s power is the bordering on becoming the stuff of legend at this point – with the names of several heavyweight greats now littered across his resumé and the scary thing is, he is genuinely getting better by the fight.
JDS learned with 77 seconds of the opening bell that the power of Francis Ngannou is not to be trifled with and in a statement made to his official Instagram page, he admitted that he made the mistake that led to his night being finished.

Guys, first of all I want to thank everybody for your support. I’m sorry the show was short this time, and without a great result for us. I’ve been on top of this sport and weight class for over a decade, and I plan to be here for a long time still. I love fighting, I love my life, and I’m really grateful for every opportunity I have to grow and evolve. The climb is tough and long, as you all know and sometimes—like tonight—months of perfect preparation and strategy are overshadowed by a millisecond’s mistake. There isn’t much to say now other than to congratulate Francis Ngannou for capitalizing so effectively on my mistake.
It’s hard to know what the future holds for Cigano at this point, but in fairness to him, the run of form that saw him score wins over Blagoy Ivanov, Tai Tuivasa, and Derrick Lewis certainly proves that he is still more than capable of competing at the highest levels of this sport.
