Watch: Israel Adesanya & Rumble Johnson Sparring Back In 2015

Israel Adesanya was drafted into the camp of the now-retired light-heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson back in 2015 as he prepared to fight Jon Jones.

Of course, the fight never place due to the now-infamous incident involving Jones’ hit-and-run on April 28 – something that caused him to be stripped of his 205lb title.

Johnson would go on to challenge for the title twice before hanging up his gloves two years ago after a UFC 210 submission defeat to Daniel Cormier.

But at the time, Rumble was certainly seen as one of the guys who could legitimately threaten Jon due to his insane ability to generate power with his shots.

For this UFC 187 training camp, future UFC superstar Israel Adesanya was drafted in by Johnson’s camp to replicate the movement of the pound-for-pound king.

Possessing a similar frame and comparable length to Bones, the resulting spar was an interesting display on both sides – as Adesanya tested himself against the much larger man standing in front of him.

Adesanya can next be seen in action tomorrow night at UFC 236 as he attempts to earn his first UFC championship belt, facing Kelvin Gastelum for the interim-title in the event’s penultimate clash.
