Israel Adesanya Predicts Showdown With Jon Jones In His Future

Israel Adesanya will no doubt have his mind set on his UFC 236 opponent Kelvin Gastelum but admitted that he sees a fight with Jon Jones in his future.

It’s a contest that makes a surprising amount of sense when you actually stop and think about it.

Perhaps Israel’s more natural weight is 185lbs, but as we’ve seen in the past, the relatively poor pool of talent at 205 could well see him test the waters before all is said and done.

At 6’4″, he would certainly tower over the vast majority of those within the division’s ranks.

Concerning Stylebender, the champ Jones himself stated in a recent interview with TMZ that he’s ‘got a feeling me and him will eventually fight each other’ and that he ‘would be excited for that challenge’.

Funnily enough, Adesanya was actually drafted in by Jon’s old rival Anthony Johnson to help him prepare for the champ ahead of their scheduled UFC 187 matchup back in 2015.

Of course, that fight never went ahead due to Jones being involved in a hit-and-run incident but some recent sparring footage between Rumble and the man he brought in to replicate Jones can be found here.

Speaking to TMZ Sports ahead of his showdown with Kelvin Gastelum tomorrow night, Israel explained how he can see a showdown between himself and the consensus greatest to ever do it in his future.

“He was right and when I heard about it – I think maybe two days after he said it – I was like, ‘Oh, really?

“I had receipts. I had some screenshots from prior and then I posted them to show that I was already on that same plane. So yeah, great minds think alike.

“It does tickle my loins. It does make me feel some type of way. I like challenges. [Jones] is the GOAT right now, right? I’ve already killed one GOAT, I’m hunting the next.

“I’ve still got to run through all these middleweights first. So we’ll focus on that later on. That’s just a little teaser. Later on we’ll talk about that.”
