Rising middleweight star Israel Adesanya wants to conquer one of his idols inside the octagon, calling out Anderson Silva for a potentially electric showdown.
It’s a matchup that does make sense when you think about it.
Adesanya has been gradually drawing eyes to his progress over the last few months and with his last victory over Brad Tavares, he really does seem to be settling into the transition from kickboxing to MMA.
Many had questioned whether a matchup against a tried, tested and in-form middleweight contender like Tavares was a case of too much too soon for ‘The Last Stylebender’ but for five rounds he dominated every facet of the fight.
Calling out the legendary Brazilian Silva is a smart move. Not only is he a huge name that could see Israel test himself to his fullest – it also would act as a fantastic stylistic matchup between two guys who we know will stand and attempt to outstrike each other.

…or you guys want this fight instead?! Yo for real…no bullshit, if not for @spiderandersonsilva I wouldn't have looked at fighting from a different perspective. I was under the impression you gotta look like Paula to be a fighter. The Spider been fucking up muscled up beefcakes since ages ago as an lean aerodynamic man. He is still the g.o.a.t imo… With that being said…I want #alldashmoke 💨. Just cuz I'm a fan don't mean you can't catch these hands…and feets. So yes I am down…will do it fih di culture of fighting! #babygoat #workuntilyouridolsbecomeyourrivals #enterthematrix #iwillattack #notakedownsipromise 👀
There will, of course, be those who perhaps wouldn’t want to see these two matched up for whatever reason and even Silva himself has said in the past that he can’t compete with the young and hungry up-and-comers anymore.
For Adesanya, though, to call out a fighter you’ve been compared to so frequently during your rise is a testament to the fact that this guy is looking to establish his own reputation in this sport, sooner rather than later.
