Watch: Dustin Poirier Overpowers Holloway To Earn Interim Glory

Dustin Poirier beat down featherweight champion Max Holloway in their UFC 236 rematch to earn himself his first taste of UFC gold.

Two classic title-bouts and two newly-crowned interim-champions to add to the history books.

Even for those who tuned in to see the electric co-main event directly beforehand, there was never really the sense that the pairing of Poirier and Holloway would be anything less than the thriller it was.

After 23 fights in the UFC, Dustin had finally done enough to earn himself a shot at becoming a champion and from the get-go, it became clear that we were seeing a very hungry fighter in there.

Early on the fight’s momentum seemed to be with the bigger man as the difference in size and power was made quite apparent.

Late surges in the opening two rounds from Poirier saw him hurt Blessed several times – as Max was forced to understand that there was a serious distance between the force in his own shots and Dustin’s.

From there, it became a very tightly contested battle between power and volume and in moments, it did appear as though Holloway was going to get the job done – with the third-round, in particular, showing a much slower and depleted Poirier.

He was able to rally when it mattered though and beat his Hawaiian counterpart down on his way to this life-changing victory.

In the end, the judges saw it in favour of The Diamond and with that, Poirier will no doubt find himself on a collision course with the undisputed champion of the division Khabib Nurmagomedov for a unification matchup later this year.
