Donald Cerrone has reportedly been pegged for a potential barnburner with vicious finisher Mike Perry at UFC Denver in November.
Cerrone might have lost out by way of unanimous decision to rising prospect Leon Edwards in his last outing but even though he showed glimpses of his top-level quality – the general consensus was that the veteran’s best years are well and truly in the past.
At this stage, we know exactly what Cowboy is like. A fighter in every sense of the word, he has gained his following on the strength of his uniquely blunt approach to combat.
You give this man a date, and he will show up to throw down.
The UFC matchmakers still seem keen on giving him challenging and even potentially dangerous matchups, though – even now in his twilight years and with this latest pairing, he is certainly up against a tall task.
ESPN reported first that Cerrone will face off against the always-game and incredibly violent Mike Perry – who turned in a typically brutal showing in his last outing.
Facing lightweight Paul Felder on short notice at UFC 226, he was able to take advantage of his opponent’s broken hand to impose himself in what amounted a very bloody display by both men.
Perry has been something of a mixed bag in his UFC run but with a matchup like Donald Cerrone, you can expect to see him flourish.
UFC Denver will take place on November 10 in the Pepsi Center in Denver.
