Dominick Cruz is reportedly set to step into the octagon for the first time since December of last year, facing John Lineker in a pivotal bantamweight clash.
When Cruz was last seen in action, he was on the receiving end of an absolute masterclass by Cody Garbrandt.
One would have to assume that he was left as shocked as the rest of us when the Alpha Male brawler was able to give him a taste of his own medicine, forcing him to miss the target often.
Garbrandt managed to put a pretty decisive beating on ‘The Dominator’ that night and while he has fought and lost to TJ Dillashaw twice in the time since, he still holds the honour of having the greatest performance against Cruz we’ve ever seen.
Reports from Combate are now linking the returning former-champion Cruz with a slot on UFC 233 in January – a card that also features the long-awaited UFC debut of the undefeated grappler Ben Askren, who faces Robbie Lawler over three-rounds.
His opponent, according to the same reports, will be the hard-hitting Brazilian, John Lineker.
Lineker’s most recent fight saw him KO Brian Kelleher in front of a crowd of his countrymen at UFC 224 and in general, he is known as one of the division’s most relentless attacking forces – boasting a granite chin and rocks for fists.
Cruz will no doubt be able to re-establish himself as the top contender if he is able to take home the win and with the prospect of taking on the champ Dillashaw once more, one would have to assume that there’s a fire within him to make yet another career comeback.
