Diego Sanchez just came through with one of the most bizarrely brilliant pieces of media work the sport of mixed martial arts has ever known.
Sanchez is known as a pretty intense guy inside and outside of the cage. Now, 29 fights into his UFC run, he may well have crafted the single most entertaining piece of interview work that the sport has ever known.
As the original Ultimate Fighter from back in 2005’s season one, Diego has managed to find a remarkable late-career run of form, scoring back-to-back wins over Craig White and Mickey Gall to find himself in a showdown against Michael Chiesa on the UFC 239 main-card.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani in a recent interview during the event’s media day, Diego was given free-reign by the ESPN reporter to speak his mind – stretching the talk out to a whopping seventeen minutes and trust us, it is work every second of your time.
Sanchez put on a masterclass in his own right, a tour-de-force in promo-cutting filled to the brim with absolute gems like this.
“I’m not this old guy, I’m the jedi. You’re gonna see a change. You don’t get the old man, you get the real man, the man, the wise-man.
“I am a jedi. I’m anti-ageing and I proclaim that I am coming for my destiny right now.”
