The former-UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson was edged out by Henry Cejudo on the scorecards at UFC 227 over the weekend.
It still feels quite weird to call him the ‘former-champion’ but when Henry Cejudo managed to stun the world by defeating the long-time P4P #1, it really stood as one of the biggest shocks the sport has seen in recent years.
The fight itself was an incredibly close and technical affair where both men most certainly had their moments – ‘The Messenger’ was given the nod by way of split decision.
Johnson was quite respectful in defeat and carried himself in a manner befitting a star of his stature.
He revealed shortly after, however, that he had injured himself mid-fight and today, posted a picture to his official Instagram proving it.

Speaking during the event’s post-fight press conference, DJ confirmed that he sustained a serious injury mid-fight, although he mentions the LCL instead of his foot.
“I remember we were scrambling, and I maybe shot, and then he kind of pushed me over, and I rolled over my right knee, and I felt the pop, and I was like, ‘There goes the right LCL – fantastic,”
Even before this, it was hoped that the fantastic second meeting between Cejudo and Johnson would be run back for a third matchup and with this latest development – it seems as though it really should happen.
