The Golden Boy Promotions head honcho had some choice words concerning Saturday’s boxing match-up between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor and was met with some even stronger words from two of MMA’s finest.
Oscar De La Hoya has a longer history with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather than most and with the unbeaten superstar set to take on pro-debutant Conor McGregor in what could well be the most lucrative combat sports event of all time, the ‘Golden Boy’ took to Twitter to voice his disapproval over the controversial contest, while also conveniently using the same tweet to plug his own blockbuster event, the eagerly anticipated showdown between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
FUCK YOU #MayweatherVsMcGregor BOTH OF YOU ARE DISRESPECTING THE SPORT OF BOXING #CaneloGGG Sept 16th https://t.co/SX1Co1Uuj8

Of course, De La Hoya will feel like the pay-per-view potential of his own fight next month will take a hit due to the massive scope of the ‘Money Fight’ but despite this, he has been nothing but critical of the very existence of this bout and what it does for the sport of boxing and its integrity.
Not content to sit around and let Oscar rain on their parade, two of MMA’s biggest names rushed to the defence of the MayMac fight, Conor’s coach John Kavanagh and the UFC’s president Dana White.

While White and Coach Kavanagh went straight for the jugular with their comebacks, others chose to lay down some cold, harsh truth, citing the fact that De La Hoya is simply annoyed over the fact that it was the Money Team and Mayweather Promotions who came away with this unprecedently high-profile bout and not him and his Golden Boy Promotions.
