Daniel Cormier has verbally agreed to fight Corey Anderson and defend his 205lb title one more time before apparently returning to fight Brock Lesnar at heavyweight.
A quick look at the rankings will tell you that Anderson may be the best option for DC if he does, in fact, wish to defend his title at light-heavyweight.
Alexander Gustafsson is injured, Volkan Oezdemir is injured, and with Corey having defeated the #3-ranked Glover Teixeira, one would assume that this is the fight to make.
Sure, Anthony Smith stole the headlines with his first-round victory over the weathered Shogun Rua (who is ranked #8) but with Anderson being the first to the table – DC seems interested in fulfilling his duties as a two-weight world champ.
Corey led the dance with a pretty cordial invitation to scrap.
Yo @dc_mma ,
They said a win over me and Glover would earn a title shot..I beat em, media said you wanted Shogun and he lost, you told Gus off, and you already fought Volkan.. I'll never "call you out" out of respect. But I'm 100% down to fight you. #UFC @ufc #letsdoit— Corey Anderson UFC (@CoreyA_MMA) July 24, 2018
To which Cormier responded:
Ok , sure just find out when and where. I’ll be there. I always am!

Cue the people saying he’s ducking X or he doesn’t want to fight Y but in truth, what we have here is a champion who even now, is willing to fight the guy who the rankings consider to be next in line.
Don’t forget that.
