Dana White made a very interesting remark backstage after UFC 236 about the future of mixed martial arts and his plans for it.
UFC 236 and its pair of instant classic interim-title showdowns are still very fresh in the minds of those who tuned in, but in one of the several post-fight interviews turned in by the UFC president, he made an incredibly intriguing comment.
“I told everybody yesterday, wait until you see what we’re working on in Vegas right now.
“In the next two months, I’m going to unveil the future. Not of the UFC, of fighting. I’m going to unveil the future of fighting in the next two months. And the amount of talent that we’re looking at right now, the shows that we’re creating to create talent right now.
“We’ve been on a roll for a while now where every weekend the fights are absolutely ridiculous and we’re going to continue. This partnership that we have with ESPN right now is a big deal, man.”
So what does he mean?
It’s hard to know exactly at this point but given how much attention he was placing on the UFC’s recent deal with ESPN during that interview, perhaps both of the sporting superpowers are working together on something revolutionary behind the scenes.
