Dana White has offered something of a promising update on a future of the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, Conor McGregor.
Despite the existence of those who are still in denial about our chances of seeing him in action again, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Irishman’s next outing will take place this winter.
As of right now, judging by his Instagram activity, it does look as though he is nursing an injury to his hand but from the looks of things, he is angling towards returning to the octagon sooner rather than later.
After in many ways getting embarrassed by his great rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, the fires that fueled the famous line ‘doubt me now’ should be burning brightly within the former two-weight champion.
And while many of us want to see Conor in a matchup against a divisional contender before gaining a rematch with the champ, UFC president Dana White expressed his interest in making Khabib vs. McGregor II.
Speaking during a recent appearance on ESPN SportsCenter, White spoke about how things could play out after Nurmagomedov’s title-defense against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242.
“Conor wants that fight. Conor wants the rematch with Khabib. All these guys have been fighting, again, this thing’s going to play out this weekend and then Sept. 7 in Abu Dhabi, and then we’ll figure out what’s next for Conor.”
“I could, I absolutely could [see a rematch].”
“He’s training. Obviously, we’ll sit back and we’ll watch how this whole thing plays out with these fights and see where Conor fits in and what he wants to do next.” (via MMA Insight)
It’s hard to know whether he is considering making the fight before McGregor takes on someone else – which I’m sure many fans would prefer – but either way, if all goes to plan, the UFC should have another major blockbuster on their hands before long.
