The UFC president wasn’t afraid to give himself a rather generous pat on the back for the role he played in making a star of the UFC’s lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
It has been a strange time in the world of mixed martial arts of late and while many factors have contributed to that fact, the absence of, and general uncertainty surrounding Conor McGregor has made for something of a murky picture in the UFC.
Still though, given that the Irishman has recently announced his intention to return to the octagon, it does appear as though order will be restored before long. It’s crazy how so much depends on one man but love him or hate him, not a day goes by where he isn’t at least mentioned in some description, regardless of his inactivity.
Dana White spoke under oath recently during the UFC’s ongoing anti-trust lawsuit and in a moment of reflection, gave himself a pretty sizeable pat on the back for his role in discovering and subsequently moulding the former two-weight world champion into the star he is today.
Now, to downplay White’s involvement in the growth of McGregor up until this point would simply be unfair, but with a 12-2 record (not 7-2) and a pair of Cage Warriors titles around his waist from both the featherweight and lightweight division, it wouldn’t take much to see that Conor was destined for the bright lights of the UFC.
Still, Dana’s involvement with the day-to-day running of the promotion and his special relationship with McGregor cannot be understated but it’s easy to see why a few people have been taking issue with this latest remark from the UFC’s president.
