Dana White claims that Cris Cyborg turned down a second showdown against Amanda Nunes and that the prospect of losing again frightens her.
Speaking in a recent interview with TMZ Sports, White explained that Nunes has been campaigning for a rematch with the fearsome former champion but as of right now, a deal has not been yet reached with Cyborg’s camp.
Citing an apparent fear of dropping another loss at the hands of The Lioness, White took shots at the Brazilian for what he claims to be timidity on her part.
“She wants Cyborg. She wants the Cyborg fight. I don’t think Cyborg wants that fight. I think it’s pretty obvious why she wouldn’t want that fight: it’s not a good fight for her. It’s a bad fight for her, and I get it.
“I don’t think she’s afraid. She’s been fighting for a long time and I think she’s at the point where she’s afraid to lose again. Losing again isn’t something she’s interested in.
“She doesn’t want to fight her. Amanda wants it, we want it, she doesn’t want it.”
As with most things that come out of the mouth of the UFC president, taking his words cautiously would be the best move.
Of course, Cyborg has had her run-ins with the promotion in the past and for a time, she was quite vocal about her dissatisfaction with the promotion and its treatment of her.
Whether or not this had anything to do with Dana’s choice of words is anyone’s guess, but as we all know, the promotional head-honcho can be a powerful enemy and with Cyborg coming off of a loss and title-less, many have even voiced their surprise at the fact that she will return to the octagon at UFC 240 to take on Felicia Spencer.
