Dana White Breaks Down Mayweather/McGregor, Promises The World That Floyd Will Get Hit

UFC president Dana White spoke recently about the hot-topic that is the heavily-speculated boxing matchup between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather and voiced his opinion on the fight’s outcome.

Dana White has made it clear in recent times that his motive in bringing the potentially record-breaking boxing matchup between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor into reality is not one based purely off of any financial gain for himself, but rather one that stems from a gratitude he feels towards the ‘Notorious One’ for all he has done for the promotion over the years.

Sure, the fight still hasn’t been set in stone, but with each passing week, it seems as though we are creeping closer and closer to getting confirmation on what could well be the biggest combat sports event of all time.

Money seems to be the only issue at this stage and in Mayweather and McGregor, you have two of the sporting world’s biggest egos, who despite the clear financial incentives in getting this bout signed, seem unwilling to give up an inch in the negotiation process.

These two guys pride themselves on their wealth and the power that it brings and though the fight itself is one that would take place inside the boxing ring, it’s almost as though the contest has already begun as these two giants wrestle for the upper-hand in the pre-fight talks.

And though the money a fight like this would most certainly bring in is beyond question at this point, few within both the MMA and boxing worlds have given McGregor much of a shot at handing the unbeaten Mayweather his first professional loss.

The Irishman has a background in amateur boxing and possesses perhaps some of the best hands in mixed martial arts today but in Floyd Mayweather, you have a man who may well go down as the most technically sound defensive fighter the sport has ever known.

Many have written this fight off as a contest already but the UFC president White in a recent interview on hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg’s GGN News (via MMAJunkie) promised fight fans that the accurate left-hand of Conor McGregor would at least find its mark once if the pair ever do finally get this fight signed.

“At the end of the day it’s a fight. Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old; Conor McGregor is 27. Conor’s a big dude. Floyd has trouble with southpaws; Conor McGregor is a southpaw. And Conor McGregor hits like a truck. When he hits you, you know it.”

“So, in no way, shape or form am I saying Conor McGregor wins this fight. I don’t know. But it’s more interesting than people think it is I promise you Conor McGregor will hit him. When they fight (Mayweather) will get hit, and it will be interesting to see what happens.”

It could be a simple case of Dana sticking up for his own man, but we’ve seen in the past how well Conor uses his accuracy and range to find his opponent’s chin and it is true, Mayweather – despite being just one inch shorter – is quite a bit smaller than the UFC’s lightweight champ.

Of course, this is all just pointless speculation but still, do not be surprised to hear an update on this heavily drawn-out saga before the summer is finished. Like many have said before in the past, there is far too much money on the table for this bout not to go ahead.
