Dana White Admits He Will Never Find Another Conor McGregor

Dana White has admitted that while he will never find another Conor McGregor, he is remaining hopeful of finding someone who brings something entirely new to the table.

We’re still very much in the middle of the Conor McGregor story, try as many might to believe that he has given up on the sport, and with all signs pointing towards a return to the octagon in late 2019, who knows where he will fit into the UFC’s landscape by the time 2020 arrives.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hashtag Sports, UFC president Dana White reflected on those who in many ways mimic the Notorious in his mannerisms both on social media and in person.

“It happens. When you see a guy who’s as successful as he is and he’s fun, I mean you see the guy’s fun and everything else, and you start thinking ‘well maybe if I act like this, I’ll have what he has’.” (via MMA Fighting)

For all the budding superstars Dana and co. have under their wing at present, it’s pretty fair to say that none of them have managed to attract the gargantuan levels of buzz that Conor was able to attract to him even early on.

To say McGregor changed the sport is an understatement. He may have rubbed his fair share of people up the wrong way by doing so but in many ways, mixed martial arts would not be where it is today if it weren’t for one Dublin featherweight and his remarkable ascent.

White agreed that looking for the next McGregor is something of a hopeless task, he expressed his belief that the next one of a kind superstar that comes along will be something entirely new and different.

“There’s only one Conor McGregor. People will always ask me ‘do you think you’ll ever find another Conor McGregor, are you trying to find another Conor McGregor?’

“There will never be another Conor McGregor, but there will be somebody else who’s different in their own way and will become a star in their own way.”

Whether that star already exists on their roster – or even on the professional circuit in general, remains to be seen, but for now, at least Dana can rest easy in the knowledge that there’s at least a very good chance that Conor McGregor will fight again before too long.
